TRIP ITINERARY

Day 1 - Hussey’s Camp

Your backcountry adventure begins as we head northwest to Hussey’s, our first-night destination. We saddle up at the trailhead, where you will be assigned your horse for the duration of your horseback vacation. Today’s ride is approximately 4 to 5 hours, with a lunch break along the way.

Traveling through wooded areas of the Ghost River Valley on trails that are walking only because of the terrain.  Your guide will take you through quiet creek crossings, over majestic ridges with spectacular views, and finally through dense forests to a quaint cabin site named after an old Brewster Family friend who had the original cabin in this private mountain location.

Spend the evening around the campfire recounting stories of old times while enjoying a traditional cowboy dinner. When you’re ready to retire for the evening, you can head for your cabin, with a comfortable place to lay your head, after your first day in the mountain air.

Day 2 - Meadow Creek Camp

We pack up and leave Hussey’s with today’s trail leading us along the grassy ridges beneath the watchful eye of ancient snow-covered peaks to the Meadow Creek camp, with yesterday’s memorable adventure fresh in our minds.

This area has been the winter grazing grounds for Brewster horses since the early 1900s. Over the years, the family has run as many as 600 head of horses, but today only runs about 150. Thoughts today will wander back to a time long ago as you continue to ‘Live the Lore of the West’.

We will climb mountain passes, keeping an eye out for Rocky Mountain Big Horn sheep, deer, elk, and possibly even wild horses! Travelling through meandering river bottoms and encountering beaver dams will keep you riding tall in your saddle all day. Our 4-to-5-hour excursion will bring us to the Meadow Creek Cabins, with its panoramic views of Black Rock Mountain and surrounding mountain ranges.

Enjoy a few stories around the campfire about past Brewster Company Ranch experiences, all the while under a beautiful starlit sky. If you are lucky, you will even hear the Meadow Creek wolf pack as they astound you with their lonely calls.

Day 3 - Meadow Creek Camp

Today, we can explore numerous trails from Meadow Creek, including riding northwest toward the southern tip of Lake Minnewanka. If guests prefer, they can remain at the camp for a relaxing day surrounded by majestic mountain vistas, including views of Devil's Head. On our final evening together, we'll enjoy one last campfire before the evening slips away, and we retreat to our log cabins.

Day 4 - Meadow Creek Camp

We pack up to leave Meadow Creek, our last day on the trail together, but we'll never forget our adventure of the past three days. Not wanting to leave the magic Meadow Creek has to offer, we'll explore the area's natural beauty before departing back on our journey to the Kananaskis Ranch. Southward and across the Ghost River, with rugged peaks as a magnificent backdrop, we travel the old horse trails again, enjoying the splendour of the Canadian Foothills and the Rocky Mountains.

Our two-day overnight trip departs the trailhead and travels to Meadow Creek Camp. After exploring the area, we’ll return the next day with south-easterly views of the mountain and foothill terrains.

Two-Day Overnight Trip - Meadow Creek

Horseback riding tours ride along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains bordering Banff National Park. For those asking for specific location information, we are also along the Ghost River Natural area and near the southern tip of Lake Minnewanka and Black Rock Mountain.
